The Digital Me

My Life Digitally Presented

Goals

I have been listening to messges from Jim Rohn this week, and one of these was on goal setting.  The actual title was "Unleash the Power of Goals."  He described goals as magnets that draw us toward them.  The more powerful the goal the more powerful the pull.

Combining the idea of goal setting with an illustration from Dan Miller's book, "48 Days to the Work You Love" called "The Wheel of My Life," I have decided to set some goals and list them here, along with the date they are fullfilled.  I am going to try to set goals for each area of the life wheel, though that may take some time to fill in.  Some of these goals will be very short term and achievable, others may seem far fetched and far off, but that is the point.  Without a vision or goal of the furture, how do you determine the choices and directions you make in your life.

Proverbs 29:18a NLT  When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild.

Proverbs 29:18a KJV  Where there is no vision, the people perish:

The goal here is to have the wheel in balance so that it rolls smoothly down life's road and doesn't bounce around all the time.  The goals must fit the following.

S - They must be Specific

M - The must be Measurable

A - The must be Actiion-oriented

R - They must be Realistic

T - The must be Time-bound

Time Management

To make this work I need to set aside time each week for all of the seven areas, though in the case of social I will be skipping that one for now.  Social is a very difficult area for me and I am not sure how to improve in that area.  Joel Boggess, my coach, advised me to stay with what I am strong in and not worry about areas that I am week.  It is like the story of the animal school.  Since all animals had to take all classes (swimming, flying, climbing, etc) none of them were able to excel in the areas where they had talents and natural abilities.

To help schedule my time better, I am going to set aside Sunday evenings for planning my week.  I will make an effort to schedule 80% of the week in productive activities.  This will include planning the audios I want to listen to while in the car on the way to and from my J.O.B.  Think the farmer.  A farmer has a very set schedule.  In the spring he has to plant.  In the summer he has to tend.  In the fall he harvests.  In the winter he stores seed.  The seed can't be sold, given away, eaten, or used for anything but stored.  If it is not stored till spring, there will be no seed to plant in the spring.  Time is the most valuable resource we have.  We can't get more, we can't recover what was wasted, and we can't be guaranteed more than the moment.  Each momement has to count.

Goals

Finacial Goals

Finacial goals are really hard for me to set because money (what we look at as finances) only has value when compared to what I trade it for.  The example would be spending $100 on new clothes for myself or spending $100 to go to Ignite Chicago with my daughter (and her friend).  The clothes are not worht $100 to me, but the time with my daughter is worth far more than the $100.

Pay off all credit cards (personal first, business second).

Have no dept

Have enough in the bank to never have to use credit for anything short of a car.

Be financially independent (able to volenteer my time 100% to things that have real meaing to me without needing to be paid).  Examples of what I would want to do are below.

  • Be a volunteer pastor for churches that can't afford one
  • Go into a nursing home and give free massages to residents
  • Free life coaching

Physical Goals

Exercise is difficult for me.  I don't like to exercise just to exercise.  I di denjoy Wii Fit and I have EA Sports Fit that I think I will enjoy.  I need to schedule time for this 3 times a week.  The program is a 30 day program so I need to commit to that (depending on how often a day you are suppose to this).  I would start on 10/9.

Health is nutrition.  I am not very consistant right now on my taking of my Herbalife products.  I know these work!  I can easily get down to 155 by doing this.  I need to commit to be on the program consistantly.  This should be a 60-90 day goal.

Relax time to refresh myself.  For me this could be spent in activities that I enjoy, playing piano or guitar, singing, walking.  I need to make sure I take time out of my busy week for me.

Personal Development

I am going to read and study one personal development book every three months.  This may cross over into a spiritual aspect also as some of the books I will choose are spiritually based.

I am going to start with He Motions by TD Jakes

Spiritual Development

I need to set aside time for prayer, worship and personal study time.  These are the 3 pillars that our relationship with Jesus is built on.
