The Digital Me

My Life Digitally Presented

The Great "It"

1 Nov 1986
In my life I have
but one great need.
It's a small
and simple thing.
A thing that all
should have.
For happiness it brings.
I once thought
I'd found it,
A long time ago,
But then I turned
only to discover it was
Nothing but a show.
It's an elusive little
thing that money
can't buy.
Yet even as
I looked around
it seems nothing more
Than a lie.
It's a thing so basic,
so natural to most.
Yet is never seems to come
to the quiet,
Only to those who boast.
Many claim to have
found it,
And maybe some have.
Yet there are those of
us who haven't,
And we are all so sad.
I have yet to name
this tender thing
And I think that I will not.
I'll only tickle you thoughts
with hints, and see
If you can guess...or not.
It's soft and tender,
yet hard and cruel.
It's kind and considerate,
yet mean as a mule.
All people need it,
and some
More than others,
And if I had
my choice;
If I had my druthers.
All in the world
would have it;
Made to the
right fit.
So, tell me if you can,
Tell me it you dare,
What my mystery "it" is,
And then,
"it,"
you must share.
